Ready to Revive.

Meet Coach JW

I am Coach JW, a Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and an online endurance coach. I coach ultra trail runners, road runners and triathletes who want to perform well and stay healthy while living full lives.

From the Fire Service to the Start Line

Coach JW competing in FireFit in full firefighter gear, swinging a sledgehammer and lowering a hose roll from the tower.

For 20 years I worked in the fire service and emergency management. I made decisions under pressure, worked rotating shifts and learned to stay calm when the plan changed. I know how hard it is to train around a job that does not follow a schedule.

Redde is Norwegian for to rescue, a nod to my Norwegian heritage. I started Redde Endurance Coaching to help athletes caught in the cycle of overtraining, injury, burnout or stalled progress. I bring the same calm, structured thinking to every plan.

I live in High River, Alberta with my wife Jess and our two young kids. Training and racing are a family activity for us, and our kids have been trail racing for years. I know the chaos of fitting training into life because I live it every day.

Coach, Athlete, Teammate

Lifelong Athlete

Junior A hockey and competitive slalom and super-G racing shaped my early years in sport. I went on to compete in FireFit and qualified for the FireFit World Championships. I also competed at a high level in team roping and cattle penning. My race history spans 5Ks, 10Ks, triathlons, duathlons and obstacle course races. Sport has been part of my whole life, so I coach from experience in training, racing and recovery.

Trained in Exercise Science

A two-year Personal Fitness Trainer diploma at Mount Royal University, completed with distinction, built my foundation in exercise science. I then earned the CSEP-CPT certification, the gold standard for fitness professionals in Canada, and completed 17 hours of training in running injuries with The Running Clinic. I am a Stryd Certified Coach and a TrainingPeaks Level 1 Certified Coach.

Coaching Online and in Person

I have coached for 6 years, backed by a lifetime as an athlete and 20 years of making decisions under pressure. My athletes train across Canada, the USA and Europe. I am an Endurance Coach with 3433 Sport Performance. I am one of the coaches for its advanced triathlon training for swim, bike and run, in person and locally, with weekly sessions. I also co-coach dryland training twice a week for Cascade Swim Club Performance program athletes in Calgary.

Giving Back to Youth Sport

I volunteer as a youth recreational hockey coach with the Town of High River and a grassroots soccer coach with High River Minor Soccer. Both follow long-term athlete development pathways, which match training and coaching to a child's age and stage so young athletes are coached appropriately. For kids, the learning has to be fun. My goal is simple: do not be their last coach. I hold a SafeSport Certificate, so safe, respectful sport is part of every practice.

How I Coach

Every plan I write is built on 80/20 training, two strength sessions and two mobility sessions each week, and your job, your family, your recovery and your life. I also co-host The Endurance Balance podcast, where we talk about fitting the training into the chaos.
